Dr. Farrukh Arif
Biography
Prof. Dr. Farrukh Arif is a Professor (Civil Engineering), and Director, NED University Virtual Reality Center, at NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan. He did his Bachelors in Civil Engineering and Masters in Construction Management from NED University. Dr. Arif did his Ph.D. and Post-Doc from Florida International University, Miami USA. He has served as scholar and visiting faculty in international institutes like; Florida International University and Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkiye as well. Dr. Arif is Director of NED University Virtual Reality Center, and is also founder of a startup called Building Energy Efficiency Simulators (BEES). Dr. Arif has more than 70 international publications including journal papers conference proceedings publications, edited proceedings, and funded research project reports. He has successfully led and contributed to 23 nationally and internationally funded research and development projects with a total cumulative worth exceeding USD 1.1 million, serving as PI, Co-PI, and senior researcher on multidisciplinary initiatives. His projects have been funded by prestigious agencies including the European Commission (Erasmus+), European Union World Bank, HEC Pakistan, SHEC, NSFC (China), China-Pakistan One Belt and Road Lab, FDOT (USA), EU programs, GIZ Germany, FIU (USA), CII (USA), and US AID. His project collaborators and stakeholders have been from around the world including those from USA, Turkiye, China, Finland, HongKong, Saudia Arabia, and Thailand etc. His collaborators have included those from UNDP, UN HABITAT, AI Engineers USA, VTT Research Center of Finland, University of Southern Mississippi, Middle East Technical University, Istanbul Technical University, Yildiz Technical University, Florida International University etc. He is actively engaged in consultancy roles for national and international organizations such as; aDelphi and GIZ Germany, AIE, Exponent Engineers, etc. He has served as technical and editorial committee members of code formation committees for Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and played vital role in development of codes such as; GBCP-2023, OSH-CPCSP-2025, Model Geen Building Provisions, working with International Code Council (ICC), and International Labor Organization (ILO). Dr. Arif has also been an active member of technical Committees for organizations such as; UNESCO Chair, PSQCA, PEC, NCRC-HEC, CDC-NTC-HEC, and NCRC-HEC etc. He has been honored with 13 honors and awards nationally and internationally and is a Professional Engineer (P.E.)-PEC, Fellow Institution of Engineers Pakistan, P.E-PEC, certified PEV of PEC, DAAB Member, Member Pakistan Engineering Congress, and founding Member of Society of Construction Law (SCL) Pakistan etc. Dr. Arif has served as invited speaker, and has delivered professional trainings more than 100 events.
